Michael Attard

I’m writing this letter to let you know how much it means to me, my wife Sharon and my family for the support you’ve provided; it means more than words can describe.

On August 1, 2021, I was kicked by one of my horses and was taken to the hospital to be assessed. After arriving, the doctors soon found out that my bowel had been split in half, and the first of many surgeries began. After the surgery, I spent the next month in the ICU, followed by eight and a half months with Westmead Hospital as my home. I could not eat any food for the next six months and lived off a TPN bag which kept me alive.

This was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through, and due to another Covid breakout, I was all alone; no one could come to see me. I didn’t know if I was ever getting out, and the bills piled up at home.

With the help of your organisation, I was able to focus on getting better and not have the stress of the bills at home. Although I am now back at home with my family, there is still a long way to go before I can get back to my everyday life, but I am very hopeful. Without your help, I don’t know what we would have done, and I am forever grateful to you all. Thanks, Mick
