Stefano Cherchi has passed away after a fall in Canberra.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of jockey Stefano Cherchi. He sustained severe injuries from a fall in Canberra on March 20th and passed away peacefully today.

The 23-year-old jockey had recently commenced riding in Australia and was based at Warwick Farm. Before coming to Australia, he was apprenticed in the UK to leading trainer Marco Botti and had ridden more than 100 winners during his time in England.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Stefano's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. The National Jockeys Trust and Trustees offer our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragic loss.
